Economic empowerment includes ability to participate in existing markets; access to decent, dignified work at living wages, control over their own time, lives, and bodies, an increased voice, agency, and meaningful participation in economic decision-making at all levels- from the household to international institutions.

The term " women’s empowerment" refers to the process of providing power to women to stand up against systematic oppression and to help them lead healthy, prosperous lives. Investing in, specifically, women’s economic empowerment is central to ending poverty, creating economic growth, and realizing women’s rights and gender equality.
